Intersectionality is a way of viewing and understanding social identities different dimensions like their gender, sexual orientation, disabilities, class and race.
The reasons to do this is because intersections of being a woman and black creates different types of oppression than a woman who is white and gay.
Intersectionality refers to the experiences of that particular person, and often theorizes on that specific persons viewpoint and experiences. it is meant to be a tool to help overs understand the overall dynamics the system of interlocking social oppression.
Intersectionality is not just for minorities, it is actually every individual, even a white male but for the sake of this research I am going to use it for women and mostly minorities.
I say that gender oppression works through and is shaped by racism, classism, or heterosexualism. Mutual construction seems to be a good way to state their relations in many circumstances.
Systems of oppression, namely, colonial/modern power and the colonial/modern gender system (along with heterosexualism, racial classification/oppression, and capitalism), literally constitute each other and cannot be understood apart from each other

As you can see this artwork is making a specific statement against certain oppression people endure. Being homosexual can be deadly especially for men, Black women aren't appreciated as much as they should be, Asian women get stereotyped, and white women are displayed as the neutral and normal persona in the USA. Everything is created because of gender systems like heterosexualism which was deemed the natural and neutral sexual orientation.
The pictures of the man and woman's roles being reversed had me very intrigued, but when I tried to search for artwork with race roles reversed nothing actually came up. I am thinking I want to explore that more, using intersectionality as my basis for the artwork. I want to take a photo that is universally known as "natural" and instead put a minority in place of it to see what the outcome is. I think that if people physically saw a black woman instead of a white one with something typically "white washed" it would change their perspective on racism and how it still exists today.
