Which approach among the five discussed have you utilized in your own past research?
There are many ways to get information, through authorities/experts, cultural beliefs, personal experiences, or social research. Then there are five different approaches to research. Quantitative, Qualitative, Mixed Method, Art-Based, and Community Based Research.
For me, I have utilized all of them in some form or another. Quantitative is deductive research, or when you want to explain or evaluate something by proving/disproving a theory with a large sample. Qualitative is inductive approaches to knowledge, or a detailed description from a small sample. You use this when you want to explore, describe or explain. Mixed method is when you gather information with both the skills of quantitative and qualitative research. It's used a lot for social action and community change. Art-Based research use literary writings, music, dance, performance, visual art, film, and any other artistic mediums and place them in the center, to value their aesthetic provocation, evocation, and understanding.
I personally use Art-based research more than any of the others, because I am a visual person.
What genre would you utilize to categorize this research?
I used self data, literary practices, performative practices, visual arts, and community-based practices to conduct research. I would research politics or racism using mixed method and art-based research.
What paradigm and theory/theoretical school have you applied as the perspective to analyze this research?
The paradigm I would focus on would be reflexivity, values, and ethics. Art-based research brings forth not only text but visual ideas and and emphasis on visual data and communication.
What method did you apply to conduct the research?
Experimental writing, video, collages, painting, drawing, photography
After reviewing your previous research, please think about and briefly state which approach and method you will want to experiment to integrate visual study with your secondary field? Why? What knowledge or understanding can they help you gain/investigate?
I AM NOT DONE WITH THIS POST-will finish soon
Please recall one of your past research/essays/artworks (it can be the research you shared above).
Did you apply any of the principles that Duncum mentions in the article? Which one? Please briefly state how this or those principles you are applied in the research/essays/artworks.
If you did not apply any of Duncum's principles in any of your past research/essays/artworks, please find one past research/essays/artworks and try to use one of the principles to re-look at one of your past research/essays/artworks again.
Post your example research/essays/artworks along with your reading thoughts. If you post a link, please make sure it is accessible to viewers.
