  • Please reference the TABLE 20.1 (page 6 of 40) and think about which type of arts-based research you will be interested to discover.

  • There are four aspects of strength that Leavy mentions from p. 8-10. Have you ever felt one of them when you conducted arts research/project in the past? What did you feel at that time?

  • There are different approaches under various genres that Leavy categorizes for arts-based research. Which approach interests you the most and you may want to explore and experiment it for your final project.

Please list THREE questions that you have about arts-based research after you read the reading. Post them on your blog and we will discuss them in the following classes.

  1. There are quite a few options for arts based research, but I am gravitating towards Art Practice as research, Arts-based research, or Transformative Inquiry through art. I'm not super sure what the last one is but it sounds super interesting.

  2. There's disciplinary, methodological, and theoretical. Methodologically, a holistic approach is a process-oriented view of research. "The immediacy of art provides viscerally felt sensorial experience, an embodied knowledge that is effective at communicating emotional aspects of social life (Leavy, 2009)" I think I've felt that emotional embedment you feel when you do artistic research, because you are reaching someone without words, only a feeling. It can be a conduit for reflexivity.

  3. "Arts-based research can be particularly useful for research goals that aim to describe, explore, or discover social, emotional, and other meta-cognitive experiences (Leavy, 2009)" "Worldwide, this is one of many ABR projects that have given voice to subjugated perspectives, stimulated dialogue, and enacted transformation (Leavy, 2009)." Sorry I'm just adding a bunch of quotes but basically the different approaches can lead to these very amazing and interesting lives. I probably want to do Art as Inquiry as my method and approach.

  4. Firstly, how do I conduct arts-based research? Second, Do I take someone else's art and use that? Or do I make my own art. Third, am I going to make it through this class?? just kidding, but I've got a lot to learn.
